Goodbye Green

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! We had a great time traveling and spending lots of time with our families. We got back home the day after Christmas and after unpacking and catching up on laundry (if there is such a thing!), I started taking all the  Christmas décor down. I love holiday décor, but after it’s all over, I’m ready to take it allllll down and find homes for all the lovely gifts we got (and things I bought while I was supposed to be shopping for other people), and make things feel fresh for the new year!

Before the holidays I knocked out a little project. I had been wanting to paint Bo’s room for a while now, and finding out the news of baby #3 seemed like the perfect excuse to get it done. Since we are not finding out the gender and since we are out of bedrooms, this little one isn’t getting a fancy nursery. (#thirdkidproblems) We are planning on the baby sharing Bowen’s room at least for a while no matter the gender. His room is still very baby-friendly, all the diapers and things are there, the crib is still in there….and I really don’t feel like moving it again. Also, Hollis is in preschool and next year she will be going everyday and having to get up early so I’d like her to be able to get a good nights sleep and keep a regular schedule.

I was also hoping this makeover would motivate little man to sleep in his ‘big boy room’ and his big boy bed….and get out of ours! Nothing motivates you to get your 22 month old to sleep in their own bed like being a giant pregnant person. I wanted him to have plenty of time to get used to his new room/bed before the baby gets here. His room was green before, which I had painted while it was still a guest room. This time around, I wanted to tailor more toward him and his interests instead of just making the old room work for him.

Not a lot has changed from this before pic except for the wall color and some new art. I ended up painting the room a warm white, Valspar’s Asiago, which is the same color I used in Hollis’ room. It’s such a nice, creamy shade of white that just goes so well with everything. I liked the green, but this little room gets some crazy light and shadows throughout the day thanks to three windows on three separate walls. The white feels so much calmer and easy on the eyes.

I added a little blue accent wall with some leftover paint from another project just to make his side of the room a little more special and to break up all the gray and white going on. I also kept all of his tractors around, which were his Brian’s when he was little.

If we have a girl, the shelves above the crib will probably change a little bit, but if it’s a boy, I don’t have to change much. This gray crib bedding has been around for all three kiddos and I’m so glad.

Brian found these old grain scoops on the farm and I made them into little shelves. When Bo was smaller, I used them to store diapers and wipes and Buttpaste to access easily. Now they hold our favorite bedtime books that I don’t want to disappear into the abyss that is the playroom.

I’m still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that I’m going to have to add another tiny ‘home from the hospital’ outfit to this shelf….

Recently my parents took a cruise to Hawaii (so jealous!) and while they were there, they got to visit Pearl Harbor where my grandpa served during WWII. They brought Bowen back these airplane pics and I love that his room is filled with special things that have lots of meaning!

So far, this little makeover seems to be working. This kid has been sleeping in his bed by himself for the last few weeks and I’m so proud (and a little sad) that he is growing up. He’s going to be such a good big brother!

Surprise!

So, I know it’s been a minute since I’ve posted anything here. It honestly feels like forever since I’ve sat down and completed an actual thought, let alone wrote about it on the blog. Life has been busy, and we got some very surprising news….

While we are very happy about the news, we didn’t have babies on the brain at all. In fact, I think we both felt our little family was complete. I had slowly been giving our baby stuff away to friends and family. (Luckily we still have a ton of baby stuff for this little nugget.) Needless to say, the news of baby #3 sort of spun me around and knocked me on my butt!

I’m just now feeling like the dust has kind of settled and I am embracing this pregnancy. Things have been going well, all the yucky morning sickness is mostly gone and I’m feeling a little more like myself. Brian and I have decided to not find out the gender of this babe. We found out with both of our other kids, but we thought it would be fun this time around since we have plenty of boy stuff and girl stuff, to experience being surprised in the delivery room.

I’m hoping to post a few projects that I have (slowly) been working on. Of course, the new addition to our family will bring on more projects. My head is spinning with ideas, but most will have to wait until I know the gender and which child of ours will be gaining a roommate!
